Oil & Gas Pipeline Survey

Survey 1

s4p survey-boats
A problem in the survey of pipeline crossing areas is the shallow depth of lakes, rivers or canals. Under these conditions, it is practically impossible to use basic research equipment such as manned vessels, which are primarily designed for use at sea.

Most sensors have problems to obtain measurements at shallow depth because they generate noise due to the vibration of the transmitter head.

The noise of the lower frequency signals obscures the first meter of depth readings below the sensor, and the noise of the higher frequency signals obscures the first 50 cm of data.

Therefore S4P Survey uses unmanned, multidisciplinary technology and equipment that is also suitable for shallow water conditions.

By operating several systems simultaneously, a quick determination of the conditions that may affect an existing or planned pipeline installation can be realized.
boat control-station
The overall system for normal surveying conditions includes the following:

Single & dual echo sounders (SBP) and

Marine electromagnetic pipe locator (EML)

All survey equipment is installed on unmanned remote controlled boats. Boats and all devices will be controlled and monitored from the shore in a safe environment for the project staff.

Obtained survey data will be stored on on-board computer and simultaniously transmitted in live mode to the Scan4Pipes Boat Control Station on the shore.

Multidiscipline survey techniques will provide data not only for depth of cover but can identify the conditions of the pipeline trench, backfill material, surrounding surficial soils, riverfloor scour along the pipeline, debris and proximity to other pipelines, assessment of pipeline coating & cathode protection conditions, cartography of surveyed area, geotechnical data, river bottom & banks ground erosion assessment etc.

Sea King Sub-Bottom Profiler

Innovative multi-element
composite transducer array

The specially designed transducer enables the echo sounder to emit very low frequencies whilst minimising the size of the overall unit. Producing a 20kHz pulse, the system is capable of penetrating the seabed and highlighting structural differences that are hidden from view to conventional echo sounders.
