Instrument payload
The Scan4Pipes Boat is designed to carry a range of instruments, including SBP, EML, RDI Rio Grande, Sontek M9 and S5 ADCPs.
The boat incorporates a large diameter moonpool that goes through the deck and the hull at the lowest point of the boat.
Instruments such as the SBP are mounted included gyro system on a removable plate which attaches to the deck.
Other instruments that have a smaller diameter than the moonpool are fitted in cradles that also act as fairings for the underside of the boat but have interchangeable fixings on the deck.
The versatility of the moonpool and multi-way connector allows a variety of instruments to be fitted including other SBP, ADCPs, cameras, echo sounders and independent GPS.
Safety considerations
It is recognised that the Scan4Pipes Boat will often need to be launched and recovered from riverside locations where access is poor.
The weight has therefore been kept as low as possible to facilitate two-person deployment and plentiful grab handles have been provided.
The propellers are partly shrouded to help limit the risk of injury to operators.
On the deck is a readily accessible switch that enables and disables the controller and the motors, ensuring that the motors do not need to be powered up before the boat is placed in the water.
Two safety lights are mounted on the deck, one indicating that the batteries have been switched on and the other that the motors have been enabled.
A separate isolator switch is located inside the battery compartment to ensure that all systems are disabled when the boat is being transported.
